A mackerel sky is a sky dappled with small white fleecy cirro-cumulus clouds and is said to foretell unsettled weather. As the old rhyme goes: 'Mackerel sky, mackerel sky, not long wet, not long dry'. The clouds were moving from South to North, right to left of picture, along the line of the stripes. Bedgebury Forest, Kent. UK. November 2002.
